ZIKORA BY CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHE

MODERN AFRICAN LITERATURE

This book highlights the love between a Zikora and Kwame. Their love starts out in a book launch where they are seen to fall in love almost instantly. They are seen to have a love word “Nutty” which is also used when they break up.

Zikora announces to Kwame that she is pregnant and this puts him in a situation of asking her to abort the baby. Zikora is reluctant to abort and Kwame breaks up with her. As time goes on, Zikora takes care of her pregnancy and is seen to fall in love with her child more often. She still texts Kwame about the progress of her pregnancy which leads her to getting blocked by Kwame.

The book ends with Zikora giving birth to her son and her mother asking her to call Kwame’s parents which she opposes and Zikora recalls a past event of her mother when her father left her.

This book identifies the modern-day problems of people avoiding responsibility of the things they have done. It also identifies the rate at which separation and single parenting is occurring.
